Doyle Character Turn

Turnaround animation for the Doyle character. I don't see any glaring problems with this one so I'll check this one off as done. At least two more turns, corrections on the Worker turn, and some character designs to finish up along with my backgrounds this for month. Busy! Busy! Busy!

Well Crap!!

I've been working on the character turns that never end. Part of the problem is I'm not finding a lot of time outside of class but I'll need to strive to find some time to get these things squared away. I did think I wrapped up my first final turn, a Worker from the year 5173, but the little problem I saw on the pencil test looks more pronounced on the final inked and colored version.

So, crap, I ain't done with this yet.

But I think I got it figured out. The above video shows a mash up of the pencil, inked, and final turns. There is a little wobble but I think the part that bugs me is the jump from the profile to the 3/4 is too severe and I'll need at least two more drawings (front and back) between those steps. Really, my 3/4 is more of a two-thirds and I'll need a 1/3 in there to smooth it out. Look at the below drawings to see what I mean.

I can't spend forever on these things even though it already does seem like an eternity. But I have about three more to finish. I did originally plan on picking one and giving it some extra drawings to experiment with smoothing out the animation beyond the basic 7 drawings needed for a turn and it looks like this will be the one.

Back to the animation coal mines I go....

Tiki Cards....in COLOR!!

Finally got the Tiki/Polynesian cards done! I was painting right up to the deadline (typical of us artist types). I had a lot of fun with these. Not just with getting a variety of ideas out but I think I did better with the color than the KRAMPUS cards from last December. Maybe doing a couple color comps on the computer helped and maybe it all seems like way too much time invested in these but I'm looking to do my best work.

 

Enlarged, like the top image, you can see how loose my watercolor painting was but, reduced to their original size, they don't look half bad.

Below is the infamous naughty card, blurred to protect young eyes. I did nine cards in total but was able to keep one. This is the one I kept, not out of embarrassment, but because I really like the colors and gradients. I had a hard time choosing one since there were about 4 different ones I could have easily kept. But I'm trying to not get too precious about my art and be able to let go of it and send it off into the world.

The Eloi still live in the run down buildings of yesteryear at night. So many drawings of interiors in disarray.

Caving In to Backgrounds!

One of the more important background drawings I need to do is for the Morlock's lair. If I intend to go back and finish my animation from last semester, I'll need to lock down the background drawings. So, lots and lots of drawings of caves.

The World of 802,701

More background roughs. This time, for the world of 802,701 A.D. In the far future of the Eloi and Morlocks, many many centuries have past. Not only has this allowed for evolution to change the descendants of Queen Eloise and Moore but the climate and terrain has changed. The english channel is gone with continental shift now moving the British Isles into Europe proper. The England of this time has long lost its name. It is almost tropical in nature. Warm pastel colors with exotic flora and tall mountains and green hills. The day has a soft glow like a spring morning. The nights, however, are something different.
