SDCC 2012: The Artist's Way Panel

I was going to wait and type up one big long report on the past weekend's San Diego Comic-Con and serialize it here but it is just taking too long. So I thought I'd just dive in and post a series of entries over the next week in a somewhat scattershot way just to get things moving.

I could not make the first couple days of Comic-Con due to work so Friday was my first day. I had missed the Flesk panel and the Spotlight on Mark Schultz panels on Thursday but Friday's THE ARTIST'S WAY panel helped to make up for that.

On the panel were some of my favorite artists: Gary Gianni, Joe Jusko, Mark Schultz, Jim Silke, and Tom Yeates. I have books by all these guys as they take a more illustrative approach to their work.

They are very much grounded in the old school way of making art but some of the discussions were about digital art and the advantages.

It was a good panel made even better at the end when moderator Gary Sassaman then started busting out some Inkpot Awards. First up was Gary Gianni to receive one....

Jim Silke also received an Inkpot....

Not to be forgotten, Joe Jusko gets an Inkpot Award as well.....

A sample of Joe's Tarzan illustration below.....

Mark Schultz did NOT receive an award! Poor Mark! lol I have to think he received one in previous years. Heck, maybe he got one on Thursday and I didn't know?

And finally, Tom Yeates gets the 4th Inkpot handed out at the panel.....

Well deserved, gentlemen!
